The Bookworm's Haven
Workshop
3.0 hrs
May 17, 2026 10:30 am Sunday
I am an educator planning to conduct a small children's reading activity called “The Bookworm’s Haven.” The purpose of this workshop is to encourage students to develop a healthy reading habit through interactive and engaging activities.
The session will be a 3-hour educational reading workshop for a small group of around 15–20 students (ages 8–13). During the workshop, students will participate in quiet reading, vocabulary-building activities, storytelling discussions, and a simple creative bookmark-making activity.
The program is designed to be calm, educational, and interactive, with no loud equipment or disturbances. The aim is to create a positive reading environment where children can explore books, learn new words, and build confidence in expressing their ideas.
We are looking for a quiet and safe space where children can sit comfortably and participate in this reading-based learning activity.
Organizer
Syeda Zubera Sofi
My name is **Syeda Zubera Sofi**, and I am an educator with a **Master’s degree in English (M.A. English)** and a **Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)**. I have been working in the field of education since **2017**, which gives me **around 9 years of teaching experience** working closely with students and supporting their learning and language development.
Over the years, I have developed a strong interest in encouraging **reading habits among children**, especially in a time when many students are increasingly engaged with digital devices and have fewer opportunities to explore books for pleasure and learning.
With this intention, I am planning to conduct a **small summer reading workshop called “The Bookworm’s Haven.”** This is a **personal educational initiative** and is not currently associated with any school or institution. The workshop will be a **paid session** and will be conducted for a small group of children, where they will participate in activities such as guided reading, vocabulary exploration, storytelling discussions, and creative activities like bookmark making.
The goal of this workshop is to create a **calm and engaging reading environment** where children can explore books, learn new words, and develop confidence in expressing their thoughts.
If the initiative resonates well with participants and the community, I would be very happy to conduct the workshop **regularly, possibly twice a month**, and gradually develop it into a consistent reading initiative for children.
I hope to build a small reading community for children through this initiative.
If you have any questions or would like further information about the workshop or the activities involved, please feel free to reach out to me. I would be happy to clarify or discuss any details.
